I have used many of them for different purposes. But, postach sounded new to me.

I am blogging on self hosted WordPress since long time. But, being a beginner if I had to start a blog without any investment, I will definitely go for Blogspot platform. It is just awesome, hosted on Google’s server so no downtime at all.

My other favourite ones are WordPress dot com and Medium. Medium looks very professional altogether, and a perfect fit for hobby writer and even for exposure.

But if you’re just blogging for fun or looking to share your thoughts, they are great. That’s what I think about WordPress too. Once you’ve realised the importance of using WordPress.org, you’ll never go back to any other blogging platform. It’s just like becoming an Apple fanboy, once you’re addicted to Apple products, you’ll never go back to something else.

WordPress.com doesn’t provide you plugins WordPress.org provides you all the plugins. Hi Ravi, as you said, free blogging sites are definitely an issue for anyone including beginners as they don’t provide you much control, features, security, storage and so on but the only reason to consider them is when you’re starting out, it’s always better to start for free (unless you’re ready to spend some money on things like hosting, design etc). I agree with you, it can be a great thing to start on a free platform. Although, I started on a self-hosted blog from the get go. You can definitely save money by starting on a free platform.

Plus it will help you see if you really want to work this hard to grow your blog. It does take quite a bit of time to grow an online reputation and get people to start coming back.

If I was to do it over, I would start my blog on a self-hosted blog again. I wouldn’t want to have to migrate everything later when my blog gets big and popular.
